Sherlock and Stargate: Atlantis and...what next?
'Sherlock' season 4 premiere disappoints despite huge plot twist
And that pretty much sums it up, really. The only thing more disappointing than the show some of the responses to it I've seen in tumblr. To quote one person "The one thing we've had confirmed in TST is that Sherlock is a beautiful, perfect person and Mary is an evil, evil woman. She spent her life selfishly tearing Sherlock and John apart and then chose the most selfish way to die to ensure she did so even in death."
I've started to use my unfollow button, so the twitching should eventually stop.
Outside of fandom reactions, however, there's a lot to not like about TST. John was poorly written. Even if I could buy that he's marriage wasn't working out for him (which they did a poor job of showing us, if the bus lady was supposed to be our only sign of that), the fact that John is so damn loyal as a person makes his behavior very out of character. But the biggest issue is Mary herself, who really is only bounced around as a way to advance the boy's story and then dies in a way to advance the boy's story. I understand, having a lot of knowledge and love of ACD's Sherlock Holmes, that inserting Mary can be difficult, but using her like this makes it even more so. Omitting her or having her live and die and the background would have been an improvement, and that's saying something.
I think I'll wait until the reviews are out for the next episode before I consider whether or not I want to continue watching.
On a more positive note, I'm up to up to Season 4 in my rewatch of SGA, having just finished watching Adrift with Lifeline to come. One of the exciting points about approaching S4 of Stargate is that I missed a lot of episodes from this season way back when I watched it when it was first airing, so a number of these will be new to me! There are, of course, still a number of episodes I did watch and several of them are pretty good and I look forward to rewatching them. Saying goodbye to Carson and Elizabeth is hard though. They felt so core to the show, you know? At least they show up again, but still. :(
After SGA, I'm debating between watching Due South and Brooklyn 99. I have never watched either show. Due South is a fangirl staple that I've been meaning to watch for years. Brooklyn 99 just seems hysterical. Any recommendations?
