I went to the optometrist’s yesterday.

I’ve been having daily headaches for months.  I had assumed it was because of the anxiety, but recently I noticed that if I take my glasses off for a while (and submit to being nearly blind-I can't see well), the headache would go away.  I had an appointment at the end of the month, but I asked if they can squeeze me in if they get an cancellations because I have been having headaches and I suspected it was my glasses.  Yesterday, they were able to squeeze me in.

So I get there and right off the bat my optometrist gets a bit upset because my glasses are supposed to be progressive lenses (aka stealth bifocals) but it turns out they were not.  When the glasses were ordered out last time they had it all correct on the paperwork but the glasses were not in fact progressives at all.  Which explains why these have felt like “the most unnoticeable progressives ever.”  This is a small town optometrist who I really like and they outsource the making the glasses thing so he's not to blame for this mess up, but he was pretty upset by it.  Even made some calls once double-checking the paperwork on his end.

Then he tested my eyes.  My eyesight actually improved by two lens factors over the course of the year.  I was told this might happen (it improved by one lens factor last year).  Something to do with age and the changing shape of my eyes or something like that?  I dunno, he explained it last year and I half forgot.  Finally, my close up vision got slightly shittier.

So, for far away these glasses are way to strong, for close up they aren’t nearly strong enough.

No wonder I’ve been having headaches.

New glasses should be in next week.

I've noticed it's easy to miss when glasses aren't working for one anymore. My last pair got changed when I started having headaches and my partner's were when I noticed he was hunching forward to read the computer screen all the time. (It was giving him back pain!)

That's incredible that you were able to make those glasses work for you at all.

Boo on the outside place that messed up.

But yay on a simple, practical solution!

I am glad the fix is reasonably easy!
